Amber and Amethyst Compete for Barbados!
Amber & Amethyst McKenzie (PYP & MYP ) were both selected for the Barbados National Swim team after very competitive and grueling trials process in mid-July 2012. Thirty one swimmers were selected in total across five age group categories in both male and female. There was a limitation of only four swimmers per sex per age group and that, therefore, required a very versatile performance across the four strokes(Free, Breast, Back & Fly) to qualify for the team. They then participated in the 18th Goodwill Games Swim Meet in Georgetown, Guyana from 16th to 20th August, 2012 against Surinam, Trinidad & Tobago and the hosts, Guyana. Amethyst won a Bronze medal for the 50 meter Breast Stroke in her age group. She also won two Silver medals in the 200m Medley Relay and 200m Freestyle Relay in her age group. Amber won three Bronze medals in each of the Relays(400m Medley, 400m Free and 200m Free) in her age group. Both girls also performed in a cultural presentation at the awards ceremonies. We are very proud of their achievements! |
