The Codrington School - The International School of Barbados

Board

The School Board at The Codrington School, The International School of Barbados is responsible for setting strategic direction, approving the annual budget and appointing the principal. The daily running of the school is administered by the principal, together with the faculty and support staff.

The school board consists of six members and the principal as an “ex officio” member and meet six to seven times a year. The members of the Board of The Codrington School, The International School of Barbados are:

Mrs. Rain Chandler

Chair

Rain Chandler is a Barbadian who was educated at The Codrington School (1963 - 1970). She lived in St Lucia and the UK before returning to Barbados where she lives and works as an entrepreneur; with experience in retail, hospitality, manufacturing and tourism. Rain and her husband John currently own and manage their event management business at Fisher Pond Great House.

She has been a board member since 2005 and her grand-daughter is a pupil at The Codrington School. Rain was a PTA Executive member for six years.

"I have championed the international baccalaureate and its philosophy. It has changed our teaching methods and today we are creating open-minded, balanced, principled, caring, knowledgeable world citizens, risk takers and leaders for the future. I believe it is important that this outstanding education is available to both Barbadian and international children."

Mrs. Sylvia Johnson

Sylvia Johnson is the owner and director of 'English in Barbados at Codrington Language Centre'. She is a British educationalist and linguist who came to live in Barbados in 1972. She is qualified in business management and has owned and run business ventures for over forty years.

She has a teacher training certificate from Matlock Teacher Training College in Derbyshire, England and is TOEFL qualified. She is qualified to teach French, Spanish and English as a Second Language. She has been involved in education for forty-five years.

Sylvia is a former teacher and principal and current governor and chairman of the board of trustees of The Codrington International School, Barbados, an International Baccalaureate (IB) World School, which offers all three IB programmes.

Ms. Zarina Khan

Zarina Khan is an Attorney-at law who has been practicing in Barbados for 20 years. Her practice Prospect Chambers specializes in Corporate, Commercial Law, Financing, Family law and Copyright.

Her interest in the school arose as a result of a relationship with Sylvia Johnson. She has been working closely with the school since her two oldest children joined the in 2008 . She has three children at the school and remains passionately committed to the principals of the IB and been active in developing the community service program. Zarina has been a Board member since 2012.

Mr. Ralph Adams

Ralph was born and raised in Barbados. He attended the St Augustine Campus at the
University of the West Indies and received his Bachelor of Science, Civil Engineering in 1982.

Ralph has over thirty years of successful leadership on a diverse range of construction projects in Barbados and the wider Caribbean. Throughout the years he has demonstrated strong dynamic visualization and critical thinking skills. This coupled with his multidisciplinary approach to providing innovative and effective solutions to complex problems have been the basis of his success.

Ralph first became familiar with the principles and values of the IB system in 2007 and currently has three children attending Codrington School. He is pleased to share his expertise with the Codrington community and is deeply committed to the schools ideals, physical development and academic growth.

Ms. Gina Staffner

Gina Staffner is a Barbadian. She is an accountant with over 20 years experience and is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Barbados. Gina worked for Ernst & Young in the auditing department for four years and occasionally assisted in the tax department. She then transferred to Ernst & Young Trust Corporation where she spent eight years managing the client accounting department. She currently runs her own firm providing accounting services to a wide variety of clients.

Gina became associated with the school in 2010 when she was hired as a consultant to work with the administrative office of the school. Gina has been on the Board of The Codrington School since early 2013.

Ryan Pannell

 

Ryan is a Canadian-born hedge fund manager, ocean conservationist, and committed philanthropist. Prior to his predictive modelling, algorithmic engineering, and behavioural finance work, Ryan was a pioneer in cryptographal web-based messaging technologies, and enjoyed a successful early career in film and television production. He has worked in an advisory capacity with companies and organizations such as NVIDIA, Scotiabank, the U.S. Department of Defence, and Google, and his cryptographic technologies have been used by Microsoft, VISA, and the Bank of Scotland, among others.

Linda Taglialatela

Linda Taglialatela, is the United States Ambassador to Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean. A native of New York, Ms. Taglialatela attended the State University of New York in Oneonta, where she completed a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics. Two years later, she earned her Master of Business Administration degree from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University

Previously Ms. Taglialatela has served as Management Counselor at the United States Embassy in Bern, Switzerland and Director of the Office of Resource Management and Organization Analysis in the Bureau of Human Resources in Washington In 2016 she began her role as Ambassador to Antigua and Barbuda, Barbados, Dominica, Grenada, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines.

Mr. Darryl Brown
